Atypical Recommendation Letters

client: Autism Voice

While diversity is a widespread policy around the world, in Romania, the word “autistic” is often used as an insult.

People with autism and other neurodivergences are perceived as a weakness or a liability for companies. Being different makes it hard to be accepted. That’s why, in Romania, less than 1% of neurodivergent people have a job.

To break the stigma, Autism Voice created the Work Aid Kit. The first ever program designed to help both companies and neurodivergent people find each other and work together, from interview to team integration.
But most hiring managers avoid atypical profiles. Neurodivergent people lose their chance, before even having one.

And here’s the paradox: without a job, people with autism can’t acquire experience or get a recommendation… which makes it impossible to… find a job. An unbreakable, heartbreaking cycle. We need to make it stop.

So, we wrote a letter. A recommendation letter. A letter coming from the person that worked with them everyday and knows their skills, potential and will-power. But it's not an employer.

It's their mother.

The campaign gained massive traction, being aired pro-bono my national TV and radio stations. The project generated an outstanding awareness for the subject. And tens of companies bought the Work Aid Kit, giving a neurodivergent person a real chance.
